Book Vending Machine

The RHPL book vending machine is stocked weekly and can be used to browse and check out available items, pick up holds, and return library books.

The vending machine can be used during Kroger's open hours (Monday-Sunday, 6 a.m.-10 p.m.)

​

A valid RHPL card is required to use the vending machine. Start your library card application below for digital access, and visit the circulation desk for full library access, including the vending machine.

Book Vending Machine FAQ

  • If the item is available in the vending machine, you will be notified when your request is ready to pick up.

    ​

    If the item is coming from the main library, it will be delivered to the vending machine on Saturday morning, after 10 a.m.

  • The hold will expire after six (6) days.

  • Yes, they can be held to be picked up at the vending machine.

  • Items returned to the vending machine will be checked in at the time of returning them. If the items belong to the vending machine, they will then be available for another patron. If the item needs to be returned to the main library, it will be off your library card but “in-transit” until it is picked up and brought back to the main library on Saturday.

  • Unfortunately, no. If you request to pick it up at the vending machine, it will be made available at the vending machine.

  • Yes. Please keep in mind that deliveries are only made on Saturday mornings, so there could be a delay in receiving your hold.

  • Scan the QR code on the machine to get the phone number to contact.

  • It is recommended that you have your physical library card (and know your pin). However, you can manually enter your card number and pin.

  • You may pick up a family member’s hold if you have their library card and pin.

Common Questions

  • Yes! Try one near home, one on your errand route, one after work, whatever works for you.

  • Yes, as long as no one else has them on hold.

  • You bet. Picture books, board books, youth and teen fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, audio-enabled books, video games, movies, storytimes; there's something for every kid.

  • Yes. They will be checked in once they are brought back to the building.

  • Yes. We will route them back to the van.

  • Absolutely! You can place a hold through our website and select "Bookmobile (van)" as the pick-up location, or give us a call at 248-656-2900 to send your items.

  • All items that are currently on the van can be placed on hold, but they must be picked up from the bookmobile at whatever stop you choose.

  • You can. It can be a tight squeeze, so we like to keep a limit of about five patrons at a time.

Blue Bus

Early Literacy Bus

Each week, the Blue Bus visits preschools and daycare centers in the RHPL service area with collections, services, and storytimes designed for early learners and educators.
