A Suitable Helper Men Who Helped Women Gain the Right to Vote

Join Anne Nichols from Rochester University to learn how Harry T. Burn, Frederick Douglass, and others lent their (sometimes reluctant) support to the cause of female suffrage. This program is presented in partnership with Smart Towns.  Smart Towns is a lifelong learning program for everyone in the community led by educational organizations in Rochester, Rochester Hills, and Oakland Township, Michigan. The Smart Towns partners work together to provide a unique series of programs exploring one theme or topic for one year. Lectures, presentations, and courses introduce the participants to all aspects of the topic and are presented by experts in their respective fields of study. Programs are offered from January through November and are hosted by various partners, which include: Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital, Oakland University, Rochester University, Rochester-Avon Historical Society, Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, and Rochester Hills Public Library.
