The Genius of Radiology: Rochester Hills Public Library to Host One of a Kind Educational Speaker

(ROCHESTER HILLS- Aug. 19, 2019) On Thursday, Sept. 26 join Dr. Peter Littrup of Ascension Providence Hospital at the Rochester Hills Public Library to discuss the history and development of the science of radiology.

Whether it be through an x-ray, CT scan, or MRI, radiology is one of the most prominent diagnostic tools in a Doctor’s arsenal. However, few people are versed in the rich and fascinating history of how these tools evolved, and how they have impacted the world of medicine. From advancements in medical image-guided therapy to Nobel prizes, there is much more to radiology than meets the eye.

"I would like to share my personal experiences with technology development that 'stands on the shoulders of giants' who have gone before us in this field. I'm grateful for the opportunity to partner with Smart Towns and the library to share these rewarding insights and exciting possibilities for the future with the community,” said Littrup.

Dr. Littrup is a globally-recognized scientist in medical imaging and intervention. He is a board-certified radiologist and clinically active breast imager who has conducted extensive research in the domains of cancer screening, ultrasound technology, biopsy guidance, and tumor ablation. This program is part of the Smart Towns initiative, which aims to provide lifelong learning programs for members of the community.

“At the Rochester Hills Public Library, we’re very excited to have the ability and opportunity to educate the community about the rich history surrounding radiology,” said Community Relations Specialist Amanda Harrison Keighley, “It is especially exciting to have a renowned doctor from our local community involved.”

The program is Sept. 26 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room and is open to everyone with an RHPL library card. This program is geared toward adults but all ages are welcome. Please register in advance at rhpl.org.
